The Bottom Line - 28 February 2003
The Israel United Appeal United Communal Fund has various divisions that assist us in our fundraising efforts and increase awareness of our organisation, as well as instil a deep sense of pride in the Jewish people and heritage.
Partnership 2000 (P2K) is a Jewish Agency programme under the auspices of the IUA in South Africa. The P2K programme partners Diaspora communities with communities in Israel in order to develop these areas and build Bridges of Understanding. South Africa and Washington DC are partnered with the growing community of Beit Shemesh / Adulam between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Throughout the year, there are various programmes and reciprocal visits between these communities. These include the Ambassadors for Tolerance Programme and the Shoah Tour, as well as professional exchanges a teachers exchange and wine delegation are to visit South Africa this year.
Grade 10s and 11s reap the rewards of the Partnership 2000 programmes. Thus, already from a young age, the IUA is educating the future of the Jewish community about our role in saving Jewish lives, being there for our fellow Jews and helping to build the land of Israel for the Jewish people.
Network is our young adults division whose efforts concentrate on the 25 35 age group. Networks role is to develop and nurture new leadership within the community. Young leaders around the world are involved in promoting the ideals of Keren Hayesod. These individuals will not only make a difference in todays Jewish world, but will also be entrusted with the responsibility of assuming the leadership of the Jewish people in the next generation.
Thus, Network, which falls under the Young Leadership division of Keren Hayesod in Israel, has various social functions and fundraising events throughout the year. Once a year, under the auspices of KH, a Young Leadership gathering is held, which attracts members from around the world. At these conferences, future leaders exchange ideas on issues facing the Jewish communities of their respective countries and Israel as well as to encourage the involvement of new members.
Network, however, does not only raise funds for Israel. A large part of Networks fundraising endeavours are for local UCF beneficiaries, some of which rely entirely on the UCF for funding. The United Communal Fund supports the communal structures that make our local community what it is. Covering the entire gamut of Jewish life, we support Jewish Education, Identity, Security and Welfare.
Both Partnership 2000 and Network are run by professional staff together with their respective volunteer committees. It is only through the support of community members that the IUA-UCF and its various divisions will succeed in the vital task of assisting the Jewish people.
