Nava Barak was born in Tiberias
on the Sea of Galilee. During her compulsory military duty, she was assigned to the IDF Intelligence Corps where she met Captain Ehud Barak. Education and youth have always been a prime focus for Mrs. Barak. On completion of her military service, she studied English literature and Arabic completing her B.A. at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received her teaching certificate at Tel Aviv University. Through her many years of experience as an Educator,she became acutely aware of the problems facing Israeli youth. As a result, Mrs. Barak became involved in "Elem Youth in Distress in Israel" and currently serves as its President. "Elem", reaches out to help youth from all sectors - Jews, Arabs, and new immigrants. Mrs. Barak has played and instrumental role in the initiation and implementation of programs targeting troubled youth. Women's health issues are also an area of concern of Mrs. Barak. She has been active in raising the level of health care for women in Israel. Since 1996 she has been the Chairwomen of the Friends of the Women's Comprehensive Health Center at the Rabin Medical Center, and since 1997, Mrs. Barak has been the President of the Friends of the Rabin Medical Center. She is also involved in Promoting social issues including the campaign against domestic violence and child abuse. Nava and Ehud Barak were married in 1969 and have three daughters. Their first grand son Lior, was born a year ago. |
