Johannesburg Ambassadors for Tolerance who visited Israel during June 2002
PARTNERSHIP 2000 (P2K)

The "living bridge" linking overseas communities with partner regions in Israel's peripheries.

P2K is an arm of the Jewish Agency (supported by the IUA ), dedicated to establishing bridges of understanding between Israeli and Diaspora Jewry. It is the ideal opportunity for communities abroad to become personally involved in developing Israel's national priority areas. In doing so, a direct community-Israel relationship is formed and Jewish identity and continuity are strengthened.

Partnership 2000 is involved in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Welfare and Community
  • People to People – "Living Bridges"
  • The "Ambassadors for Tolerance" programme and its reciprocal visits allow students in the partnered regions to visit each other and learn about one another's society and culture.
  • The Shoah Project sends youth delegations to Poland and Israel where they experience history first hand.
  • Professional exchanges increase awareness, specifically in the fields of medicine, education and hi-tech
"People to people programmes have become the heart of Partnership 2000. Through mutual involvement in shared projects, the partners in our communities and in Israel come to know and care about each other."
