Deborah Lipstadt recently visited South Africa as a guest of the Israel United Appeal – United Communal Fund
Professor Deborah Lipstadt is a well-known scholar and author who works as the Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is famous for her book: “Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory”, for which she was sued by self-proclaimed historian, David Irving, for calling him a Holocaust Denier. The libel suit that followed received much media attention. In her defence, Lipstadt not only stood up for herself and the truth, but for the Holocaust survivors and those who can no longer stand up for themselves. Her resounding victory has made her a heroine, yet she plainly says: “I did what I had to do… It was my duty, my responsibility.”
